Shh...

So I'm setting up (another) site.

Sure, Whizu garnered no interest and onStands is garnering no interest. However, this is a bit different in that I'm involving some other parties who will hopefully bring in a 'starter group' of users so things don't look empty when new people come by.

Also, this is relying on the sum total of all my experience/concepts related to those failed projects.

Before anyone cries: "ZOMG DW CLONE LOL WTF" I should point out that, while this is the beginning stages, I feel it's different enough that it's not a DW clone - but rather "inspired by DW".

I could list the reasons, but that would just make this (more of) an advertisement.

... Anyway, the point of this post, I'm going to need 'a few good men' (or women...thologies...) for Mods/Contributors/etc.

Basically there are some folks here who I agree with AND disagree with that I'd like to have over.

Basically the trade-off is I benefit from ideas/opinions, and you get to have your ideas/opinions actually mean anything.

So how about it? Anyone game? I won't call anyone out by name to save us both the awkwardness, but I'm looking in YOUR general direction, [REDACTED]!!

As I hinted at, ideally I'd like to create a community where people with 'power' don't all just agree with how I'd do things. Dissent is encouraged, etc.

When you say "contributor", do you mean merely well, what we do here? Or are you talking content?

Both.

I've set it up so that... well, picture the front page of Digital Webbing if anyone on the forum could write the news/reviews/etc. Want to do an ongoing article about the state of digital comics? Do it. Want to review all of the Watchmen prequels? Go ahead. Want to do exactly ONE top 10 list of insane TMNT rip-offs of the 80s? That's fine, too.

Think of it like a much smaller (lol) version of Bleeding Cool, Cracked, and Digital Webbing unwillingly slammed together... with the emphasis on the Digital Webbing part.

Of course, down the line 'anyone can post on the front page' might be restricted, but I prefer to lock things down *after* seeing if people are abusing it enough to change.

Primarily, of course, filling the forum with discussion is the key. Come to find out people don't like to post on forums nobody's on. Who knew?

I've nailed down a few more things over the past couple days. Anything look insanely bad? (IE: Cross-browser problems?) Derp derp!

In the next few days I'm going to call in some favors from a few people I know - publishing, reviewers, creative-types, etc. to see if they'll start contributing.

Not saying they'll do stink-all about it, but still!

Come on over, folks. Time to give me as much crap (or more) as I've given you!

So, are you right now in the only comics forum that allows you to have shelter and to be heard, asking people to leave it and to join you in your new owned comics forum? What is the use of it? Where is the need?

Weren’t you the one that a couple of months ago were telling us in these same forums that DW was doomed and nearest to its end?
How it happens that your former owned comics forums didn’t work? Ever?
(Quoted by CHWolf: “ Whizu garnered no interest and onStands is garnering no interest.”)

Maybe you don’t realize this, but comic’s people likes to gather on sites and places where the owners have some credibility or have well-owned prestige among the comics community and in the comics industry.
As Ed Dukeshire has, or the creators of these others comics forums you are trying to ape have.

We even learned that you were trying to buy DW from Ed, not longer ago.
Of course, Ed didn’t bite it.
And then, here you are again, trying to build another comics forum of your own. Why?
I don’t get it.

Scribbs with the negative take. I'm shocked and amazed.

*ahem*

I'm actually a member on PencilJack and have been around on many boards past (without being kicked). I kind of like to post here because posts don't get immediately buried by a ton of other content. There's a good chance of crap I spout actually being looked at by a larger number of people.

Also, it's fun to debate people, and there are a few people who *always, always* jump forward to argue. Case in point.

Didn't ask anyone to leave here.

1.) Post your own news/article/review piece without having to appease the "Gods" and become an "Administrator" before doing so. Front page is never stagnant as long as people want to share their writing/artwork.

2.) Attention paid to the community BY the powers-that-be... and yes, that means more than myself.

3.) Lots of cool features you won't find here, not that anyone has to choose. (After all, they wouldn't choose mine. )

4.) More welcoming atmosphere for creators, like not calling your projets spam that gets crammed into a pit hole... Proudly displaying people's recently posted artwork on the front page... Stuff like that.

I can go on if you want, but five through fifty should probably be by PM if you're interested.

I didn't use those words, no, because I wouldn't proclaim something that might not come to pass. (You're always right if you say "The world might end", not "The world will end".)

Instead, I think I talked about how the site was dying, etc., which it still is. That doesn't preclude resurrection. The number of current posts on some of the most popular boards is going down, and the return of veterans who then leave again is a classic sign of dwindling interest. It means someone felt there was dire need to get their attention, but nothing was here to keep it.

But I'm not ripping on DW - I'm answering your question. As I say, I like posting here - even if it's for selfish reasons.

Trial and error, third time's the charm, blah blah blah.

People rarely succeed on their first time out - and really I don't know how throwing that in my face when I already admitted it does anything but make you look small.

*shrug*

lol

Ed built up his well-earned status. It wasn't like that at day one of DW. I think you know that.

Furthermore, setting up a forum based on a concept is not just 'trying to ape' anyone. If it were, every comic forum would be aping the first.

Quote:

Of course, Ed didn’t bite it.
Actually, it was halted when the Mods here contacted him about restoring the site.

Ed and I were discussing price.

Hero Hour is pretty much what I would've done with Digital Webbing -- BUT -- without the DW-specific stuff that I wouldn't dare rip off. IE: Graphics and the absolute identical layout, etc.

Short answer:
To contribute something of value to the indie digital/print comic community.

Long answer:
To contribute something of value to the indie digital/print comic community, obviously.

You know what's *not* in it for me? The time, trouble, and $$$ I put into these things. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work - but at the end of the day I'm doing it to fill a need I see and nothing more.
