Groaning sound?
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on this. Basically, in a story I'm lettering, a character is waking up in an unpleasant daze after being shot, killed, and resurrected by the devil (in that order). I'm imagining there's still some residual pain working through his system at this point, so I figure a groan is in order.
Problem is, I'm not exactly sure how to represent the groan in textual form. I could go with a standard "{groan}" surrounded by fireflies, but I'm kind of looking for something a little onomatopoeic, if possible. I've been looking through all kinds of comics but haven't really found anything satisfactory yet, so if you guys could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

that stuff's fun to do.
decide your sound -- for example, WUUUUUHHHH -- and typeset it in a few similar fonts, in upper and in lower case. then outline and ungroup all of it. make a few copies of the whole mess in slightly altered percentage scales and slightly skewed angles. now you have a library of characters from which to mine your groan. bounce it around. mix up fonts. let it get smaller and bigger and smaller again. you'll know when you've got it. |
