Nic will become famous soon enough
I have another Kickstarter related question and figured I would drop it in here instead of starting a new thread.

Is Kickstarter still for US people only?
Because I have seen projects from all over the place recently but canīt find any info. Maybe they are having someone in the US who signed up for them?

Any info is much appreciated.

Best,
Nic

I believe it's US only still, BUT as you said international people can still have their US friends sign up for them. My friend from Australia did this recently. But remember that friend will also have to probably take care of the shipping of rewards as well unless you hire a shipping company, because most of your backers will be from the US (and shipping between countries is expensive!)

Are you going to try for one?

My second Kickstarter campaign is about to be fully funded in the next day or so.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...de-space-fight

After two campaigns I think I have a pretty good idea what works and what doesn't. Media exposure is key along with celebrities willing to go to bat for you. Unfortunately the average person doesn't have access to things like Jim Lee doing portfolio reviews as a pledge. You will need to work your tail off to make people aware of your campaign.

The important thing is to be realistic with your goals. Don't shoot for the stars because with Kickstarter it is all or nothing. Also, be prepared to deliver the goods when the time comes.

What am I missing when it comes time to launch and you need to work with Amazon Pay? -- I can't get past it without a registered business number and similar information.

Been hovering around this problem on and off for a few months. Mostly because the site loads like Hell on my crappy setup.

Anyone that believes the people using Kickstarter to fund their projects are just a bunch of beggars asking for handouts haven't had to spend the day sending out $1000 of fulfillment rewards.

So you're saying you came up with a net of $1450? Holy crap, I spent more than that on computer gear last month.

No, I'm saying that the rewards I sent out just yesterday were worth $1000 of pledges. I have over hundred people to send stuff to. There's no way I can do that in one day.

Yeah, exactly. You got $2450 in pledges and then had to turn around and spend $1000 on sending out prizes? How is the stamp-licking (not to mention harassing people and being a mendicant) worth the paltry net sum?

I spent over half that on Amazon this month.

Geesh, you're an abusive douchebage (yes, I get the hypocrisy of that statement). Who is he harassing?

Do you go give this same routine to the Girl Scouts when they come by selling cookies, or grade-schoolers that are looking for you to help them with their school fundraiser?

You've made it clear that you don't like Kickstarter. We get it. Nobody cares. You're just a trolling nuisance at this point. It's ironic that your name means "Educator" which is quite the opposite of what you do.

I've pledged two of Tom's Kickstarters after learning of them on his Facebook page. I've never felt harassed or squeezed. I know Tom through DW and Facebook, unlike anyone at Marvel or DC who'd like to have my money.
The Kickstarter marketplace is different, but it's a marketplace.

If I understand right, netting $1400 on $2400 is a decent return. People are bootstrapping and every dollar counts. Time costs less than money at this point.

Tom's also been very transparent about his finances, which he's not obligated to do, and which I commend.

No, because the Girl Scouts are selling a tangible product, right then and there. No pie-in-the-sky promises.

No, because that either involves ordering producs (fruit baskets, chocolate, etc.) from known-quantity business entities; or it's outright charity. Unless you're saying the KS projects are somehow analogous to charity?

While bishops are probably best known for buggering altar boys.
