How do I create a PDF submission file?

Hey fellas - I need your collective help!

I've been asked to supply a client with a PDF file presentation of the first handful of pages of his comic submission. It's the first time I've ever had to do this.

Now, I've tried following steps on a couple of how-to sites. But each time, I'm told that Acrobat doesn't recognise the files I've created.

I think this may be to do with the fact that I'm using Microsoft Works Word Processor, and not Microsoft Word.

I've basically been saving low res JPEGS and importing them into Microsoft Works Word Processor, and saving as an HTML file. From there, it's just not working.

Could anyone tell me reliably how to create a PDF otherwise?

What version of Illustrator are you running? Also: Windows or OSX?

Cheers

Could this be The Mighty Jim, speeding to save my bacon?

I'm working in Windows, with Illustrator CS3.

Yours consternatedly,

HdE, aged 35 and one quarter.

Bugger. I was hoping you'd have a version of Illustrator that supported multiple artboards, because you'd be able to get a PDF straight out of AI, or were on a Mac, where you can get a PDF out of any application which you can print from…

Best option I can come up with is this free software that enable PDF creation from the Print dialogue in Windows:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Comments on that page note that a SECOND installer will launch that will attempt to install an adware toolbar, but you can decline the second installation and still get free software.

Note that I haven't actually used this software.

Alternatively, you can get a 30-day functioning trial version of Print2PDF, which we used in my last office-based job and which definitely works…

http://download.cnet.com/Print2PDF/3...-10425660.html

Hope that's some help!

Cheers

Jim

I know Illustrator 9 exported to PDFs.
From there, with AI 9 I used Acrobat to combine the single pages together.

Thanks fellas!

You guys rock, and have earned a place in my New World Order when it comes to pass.

Not sure as yet if any of this will work, but I'll take a peek at all of it momentarily.

EDIT: Saving sample pages as individual PDFs from Illustrator seems to be the way to go. Not sure as yet how to put them together into one file, though...

Man, am I too late to be a part of your new world order? Because if you google JPGtoPDF or JPG2PDF, there's a nifty little program that collects all your individual JPGs and binds them into a PDF.

If you can't find the program, shoot me a PM or an e-mail.

Job's a good 'un!

Thanks everybody. You guys really saved my bacon here.

I found a 15 day trial of the program Lordmagnusen mentioned. It literally did the job in two minutes flat.

But naturally, I'm grateful to all of ye. Cheers! E-beers all 'round!

I believe that you'll need Acrobat Pro to combine the PDFs into one file, but my experience here is limited.

There's one excellent reason to invest in Acrobat Pro (although I'm pretty sure you should get a copy with Illustrator?) and that's the fact that it exports Word documents from PDFs, which means you can turn a PDF script back into an editable document.

(But also the ability to do on onscreen proof of specific plates, particularly being able to view CMY and turn off the K is quite handy for making sure your overprints are all overprinting…)

Cheers

Jim

Jim, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds totally worthwhile.
