Deep Thoughts

I was fielding some questions about thought balloons on Twitter yesterday, so I made up a quickie graphic...

Thought balloons are one thing I still draw on the tablet every time. I can't get a templated one that works for me. Fortunately I don't have to do them that often.

one reason the skewed ovals looks so cool is because it works well with the italic type within.

I've tried methods one and two both. I prefer two, but sometimes to save time I'll do one. The third option with the slanted ovals is a really nice touch. I hadn't even considered that. Great stuff!

Nice method, I always use 1; but I like 2 and 3.

Same here, and burst balloons as well. Even though you CAN fake it with a mouse, doing it by hand is faster and looks organic every time.

With method number 1, don;t forget to manipulate the bezier handles to make the arcs a bit rounder if desired. Massive effort, but for the resulting re-usable balloon, it's worth it, I think.

I have precisely TWO thought bubbles in my stock template. I really ought to make more for some variety.

Yep. Doing that gives a result much more like v2.

Cheers

Just the thing. The thought balloons I've archived have their problems, and this will give me better results. Thanks!

Type 1 never looks right to me. I use 2 generally, but skew it like 3 for effect if it's frantic thoughts or something like that.
