I got the audio book based on everyones recommendations yesterday and I listened to it in one sitting.

WOW

The cast is great and I highly recommend it also. I would say that my favorite voiceover was the Yonkers guy.

The only thing I didn't like about the audio book was how incomplete it was. I know it would be 20 Cd's long if they did the whole book, but they missed out on some great chapters.

Still, Henry Rollins though....

Yeah this abridged version makes me want to read the book to see what i missed. And man was I surprised to hear Alan Alda - I had to pull over on the interstate to check the credits on the cover.

I think Max Brooks has cast the movie with the perfect people for the movie - except I hope he does not play his own part. When he chimed in it really took me out of the story.

so, wait, this is a book of interviews, or is it an actual novel? I'm a little confused.

Its a novel written as a series of interviews that show how every part of the world deals with the zombie outbreak.

I didn't think I would like it at first, but it just grabs you and I will tell you that if the audio book was another 50 discs I would make the time to listen to them all.

Here's some interesting news:

Quote:
NYCC 07:
Straczynski Scripting World War Z
B5 creator adapting zombie tome for Paramount.

February 24, 2007 - J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of the sci-fi series Babylon 5 who has also become a popular comic book scribe in recent years, announced yesterday that he is writing the screenplay adaptation of the zombie book World War Z for Paramount. The Max Brooks novel, which was optioned last summer by the studio for Brad Pitt's production company Plan B, is subtitled An Oral History of the Zombie War.

"You all know the novel World War Z?" asked Straczynski of his audience during a New York Comic-Con panel on Friday. "I'm adapting that for Paramount. For Brad Pitt potentially -- we'll see what happens. He might be the star in it. So things are going very well for a TV guy."

Straczynski acknowledges that the book needs to be modified in order to work as a movie, particularly since it is an anthology that features no main character or plot, but rather skips around through time via the recollections of the many survivors of a decade-long war against the living dead.

"What you have to do is… the book, if you haven't read it, is a wonderful, wonderful book in an interview format after the zombie wars," explains the scribe. "You see how we survived. It's very political, very smart, very cagey, but there's no main character. So you have to create who the interviewer is and give him some background and bring him from place to place to place to place. And they said, 'Feel free to get as political as you want, as incisive as you want, to play with it. You could look at this as a Katrina kind of catastrophe.' But I'm being very faithful to the book, letter by letter when I can, and I'm on about page 70 right now and I'm really happy with it. I'm really pleased with it actually, so if that goes well we might go into production on that one."

He sounds like he has the right idea.I just hope he doesn't turn it into just another run of the mill zombie movie. Although I do love those, it would just be a shame for a story with such an original voice to wind up hacked.

Yeah- The Audio book cuts out like 1/2 of the book!

I would expect that if this version of the Audio book is succesful - They could put out an unabridged version....

According to The Marvin Wynn Media Group, Straczynski recently subbmitted his first draft for the movie.

I thought this was a fantastic read too. If they do a comic, I hope it lives up to the book. Any favorite stories from anyone, in a non-spoiler way?
