Arcana and Platinum merging?

"Editor In Chief of Arcana, Sean O'Reilly, accepts a position at Platinum Studios. Currently I hear it's Vice-President in charge of Publishing, while Adam Rosenblum, originally installed as a temporary Editor In Chief after Jim McLaughlin's sudden departure, will remain in the role permanently.

O'Reilly has moved from Vancouver to Los Angeles for an extended period of time to work with Platinum. There is a possibility Arcana will become part of Platiunum, and O'Reilly has approached several of his Arcana creators to sign Platinum deals. "

This from http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/?column=13
-------------------------------------------

What the hell?
Does anyone know why Jim McLaughlin (formerly of Top Cow) has left Platinum after only one year?
Any more information on Arcana and Platinum anyone?

Rich's info is a little outdated. Jim McLaughlin left in March to take on the Hero Initiative fulltime--- Adam Rosenblum had been in that position as official EIC for quite some time... Oh, also, looks like Arcana might be acquired by Platinum if you read the official press release: http://platinumstudios.com/news/article.php?article=169

Lots of cool things happening.

I was wondering why he has been pushing for me to sell YIN YANG. Oh well, I guess it makes since for Arcana to sale. I wonder if they will go under the Platnium name or if Arcana will still be around?

That certainly explains what I've been hearing about Arcana's deals.

Could be a good thing. I'll have to talk with Joe Martino about this.

I think you can work out a pretty good deal if it's an outstanding property.

Unless it changes, it is a small upfront fee with a % of profits. Better than nothing. Also, they where addressing concerns one-on-one but they got lax (probably during the change over).

I think that Strang guy is the PERFECT example of how NOT to act. I heard he was fired for threatening the bosses and editors there. Not cool. I would of canned his ass too if it were my company.

No offense to the other creators who weren't published who signed up, but I think Platinum might have found themselves with a lot of unusable work or stuff that wasn't polished enough, or creators like this who just had no experience with actual writing.

I like Strang. He's entertaining. Like a puppy.

I wouldn't say he's the perfect example of how not to act - he's a good example of why you should read contracts. If you want to sell a property that you weren't commissioned to create via a WFH contract more power to you. If you want to find some sort of platform to warn creators about knowing what they're getting into, more power to you. But his approach to mouthing off is more reminiscent of the WWE than anything that'll actually help anybody. And that makes him entertaining.

But I do have to call this comment out...that almost sounds like Platinum was a concept farm from the start and never had any intention of using most of the actual work they paid for...their plan was to basically buy the idea for a small fee disguised as a page rate. Then, if they decide to develop the idea, they don't have to deal with the IP lawsuits from folks saying they submitted similar ideas. I mean...why else would they accept shitty work? That's entertaining too.

I don't know how that guy Strang is at writting, but certainly he's not good at reading.
What the publishers are doing is exactly what they proposed in their contract.

He signed it. I don't know why is he complaining now. What is the surprise for him.

He should try to sell and script to a Movie Studio for himself and see what is happen with the original idea concept if it some day can reach the big screen.

If he is trying to promote himself , that is a wrooong way.

Usable?

I can't speak directly to anything related to what I did for that company, including Weird Adventures by Mike Strang, but I can promise everybody here one thing: I work with creators to produce the vision we agree on; I always do and I always have.

"Usable" is the lowest rung on my editorial ladder; I believe I help creators do better than this more often than not.

I believe that when referring to the quality of somebody's work, regardless of their attitude or use of grammar in their postings, it's STILL better to see the work.

I wish I could write more--boy, do I--but I can't.
