dwpff: work journal

this will be a running journal that serves as a kind of 'behind the scenes' of the production of the 'fairytales in the future' book we're building. i figured i'd get it started with some art...

that's by senk chhour(consumer 12002), from josh o'neill's take on hansel&gretel. senk's stuff is so damn gorgeous i wouldn't dream of ruining it with ink.

character sketches and a finished page by jim mcmunn(knuckle supper). these are from justin hughes' take on 'the 5 chinese brothers'.

character design for 'the lion&the mouse' by tomas morona, from glenn arsenau's take on that fable.

some designs from weshoyot alvitre and her take on 'the snow maiden'.

a look at charlie fetherolf's(dickieh8) layouts for his take on 'the billie goat's gruff'.

a fantastic pin-up, playing with 'rip van winkle', by ramona johnson(scaleinyx)

lots more to come..!

Wow, fantastic work. The Billie Goat's Gruff layouts are NICE.

I haven't told anyone but my wife about my participation in this book. I want to send my mother the finished book with a bookmark on my page.
I know the book will be so gorgeous, and that's the first thing I want her to see.

Fantastic work by all. Is there a master list of the stories, with the writer/artist attached somewhere? I'd be curious to see something like that.

Looks like you need some more artists. I forget, do they have to be from DW?
I wish I could take on Riki Tiki Tavi, that's always been a favorite. Everyone else's stuff looks great. What do you figure the page count is by now Chris?

hey charlie.

i do need some more artists. i've got a few guys committed but haven't matched them with stories yet, and i had a nice breakthrough earlier with a pairing i'll be able to list monday i'm hoping. all in all, when we open the artist submissions here on dw, i'll be looking for 7 or 8 artists.

and no, they don't need to be from dw.

riki tiki is nice and short and to the point. mike exner, the writer, did a good job.

page count is right around 500.

That's some serious weight with those names. This thing should be amazing. I'm starting to regret being unavailable to commit to this, it'd be an amazing thing to have my name beside some of these heavyweights.

I don't think enough kudos have gone to both Chris, Jamal, and anyone else involved in the planning and logistics of this thing. With the right push, the right marketing, this thing could make a splash. This could turn some of these names into big guns. I really think this project has that capacity.

Anyway, good luck to all, I'll be keeping an eye out. If anyone needs a writing assist, or an ear to bounce ideas off of, shoot me a PM.

Wow, looks like this will be both an amazing and beautiful book! As Mr. Bertolini said, lots of kudos to the organizers - must be a big job...
