I was planning on going all year, but now I have to move and work this weekend. I want to go, just to find artists who might be interested in working on the Canadian Legion stuff.

The panels are weak this time around.

Great guest list. It's a shame when I went to their first con a year or so ago in november it was such a complete dud. It was held in the equivalent of an unheated warehouse and the trip ended up costing a ton of money.

Maybe I'll give them a shot again but it'll have to take a few more years until I forget how bad a time that trip was lol!

Oh I wish! But it's an 8 hour drive from where I am and with two young kids...SGM, will any of them come to Montreal this year? I am only an hour away from there...

I wish I could go too, but I am stuck out on the east coast with no travelling cash...I've never been to a con, which kind of sucks, I'd like to check it out.

Very few creators from outside Montreal come to its shows. The shows themselves are really small, but if you're an aspiring artist living in the area I'd recommend going just to talk with the local creators:

- Yanick Paquette
- Clement Sauve
- Wes Craig
- Serge LaPointe
- Eric Theriault

These guys are really nice to talk to and very talented as well.

I probably won't make it to the comicon but i'll be at the Hobby Start Toronto Annual Comics/Anime/Horror/Games convention at the end of August this year.

2007 Toronto Hobby Star Convention (http://www.hobbystar.com/ComicConToronto2006/CC_Main.asp)

Apparently they had over 40 000 people last year (i was there last year too) and great guests. For anyone interested in comics, and even remotely interested in games (video games, etc.), horror or anime it's the show to go. There's a huge space and lots of retailers, heck you can even purchase swords there. :)

There's lots of hotels downtown usually, so if you go to Toronto it'd be easy to find a hotel downtown and even near the comic cons. :)

I've just got back from NY after sharing a booth with the names you mention, apart from Eric and am going to start looking into getting to Toronto for the con. I think it's either that or Heroes con for me this year as far as another overseas con.

Hey Kris! Good to see you on the boards.

Which con in Toronto were you thinking you may attend; the Paradise Comics (http://www.torontocomicon.com/) show , or the Hobbystar (http://www.hobbystar.com/hobbystar/Conventions.html) one?

I usually only see Yanick and Clement at the big Hobbystar show in August, so maybe that's it.

I guess I'm moving up in the world. I'll be a guest at The 5TH ANNUAL PARADISE TORONTO COMICON -June 8-10, 2007. Conveniently located 3 miles from where I live.
I'll be showing copies of my two graphic novels. Only Hope Remained (supernatural thriller) due this fall from Platinum Studios and Devoid of Life (horror) which has no publisher as yet.
Please drop by and say hello. :)

The Paradise Toronto Comicon
June 8-10, 2007
Direct Energy Centre @ Exhibition Place, Hall C
Toronto, Canada

http://www.torontocomicon.com
http://www.myspace.com/torontocomicon
http://www.comicspace.com/paradisetorontocomicon/

2007 will be the 5th year of the Annual Paradise Comicon in Toronto and the 15th year of operations for Paradise Conventions in the Toronto area (formerly known as ParaCon and Tempest Promotions).

The Paradise Comicon is Toronto’s largest convention that focuses ONLY on all types of comic books and sequential art. Both in square footage and in attendance. We are also proud to support the Beguiling's Toronto Comic Arts Festival, which will take place August 18-19, 2007. www.torontocomics.com

Unlike most comic book conventions we keep the majority of the attention on comic books and graphic novels by developing programming around content and creators of all types - mainstream to the fiercely independant.

Over the last four+ years we have created a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where people can enjoy themselves, network and talk about comics. Comicon guests are accessible for the duration of the show and this allows fans a lot of interaction time. Panels and workshop programming are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. There are rarely scheduled signing times, so attendees do not have to spend their time standing around in long line-ups. We have also been very successful in attracting serious comic book collectors.

We are also the home of:

The Women of Comics II Symposium http://www.womenofcomics.com

The Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards http://www.joeshusterawards.com

The Comics for Kids Initiative

Hope that information I listed above is helpful and clarifies which convention Raff was talking about. We've come a long way from that first show back in November 2003, and the show is housed in Hall C of the Direct Energy Centre (formerly known as the National Trade Centre). The Direct Energy Centre is a relatively new and state-of-the-art convention and conference facility located on the historic Exhibition grounds in Toronto.

Last year's attendance was just shy of 6,000 comic book fans, we're expecting the same or more in 2007. Unlike the other show that has been mentioned earlier in this thread from another promoter, the Paradise Comicon is all about comics. That is, we don't ghetto-ize or compartmentalize comics in with other fan genres. We concentrate on comic books, manga, graphic novels, original art and some related animation and film. That being said there will be some crossover items (toys, magazines, models, statues, art books, videos, posters, etc.) available in our dealer area, which takes up roughly 2/3 of our 60,000 square foot hall.

If you go to shows to stand hours on end in lines, then we're probably not the show for you. If you want to meet professionals, get sketches and autographs, learn about current and upcoming projects or just go back issue hunting, then we think you will enjoy yourself at the Paradise Comicon. Many attendees have compared our event to other comics only shows like HEROES CON and the BALTIMORE COMICON.

We've also got a one-day event coming up on March 25th at the Holiday Inn on King (11AM-5PM). Admission $5 - Details can be found here: http://torontocomicon.com/story.asp?storyID=80

Kevin Boyd

It's not.

The one in June is done by the cool dudes from Paradise Comics. The other one is by Hobbystar Marketing.
