Anyone know if they allow the bringing in of food & drinks (alcohol even?)?? I'm thinking that if we're at a table for hours we're going to be very hungry.

I carried snacks and bottled drinks with me last year. Not sure bout the alcohol thing lol.

SDulaney
07-14-2006, 04:45 PM
I know Mark/Mike/Steveo and Kody had a cooler in th booth last year.

Alcohol? Hmmm. Where's Jerry?

You ought to be good if you bring energy bars/chips/water in but they "officially" prohibit outside food. Of the food in the hall, I would only recommend the pretzels and the gyros in the SW corner. (The gyro stand is actually run by a local greek place...not the convention center.)

I dont think your officially aloud to bring in any food items, the cooler thing is pushing it, but if you hide it well I dont think that should be a problem. I brought bottels of tea with me. Since I'm with almost 10 people, we pack a HUGE lunch, and set up a picinic in the parking garage. seems to work very well.

I have never been in the pro lounge..... Is it worth it finding it? Do they give out free lemonade and snacks or something? :)

the pro lounge during the convention isnt that great.. just a nice place to sit and kick back away from the crowds. there is coffee and tea, but thats it. HOWEVER on Sunday after the con is over, the hyatt has a lounge for the pros. there they have veggie platters, sodas, and other snacks, and its much larger. nice place to go. i'll probably be going there after im done on Sunday.

Out of curiosity, what will it cost me to ride a cab from Amtrak station to the Raddison? I've never ridden a cab so how much and do I tip? And how much is that??? Thanks...

Honestly, I wouldn't get a cab. If you're not packing a bunch of stuff (i.e., only have a couple of bags) you can just walk out the door of the station until you hit Front Street and turn left. It'll be a few blocks, but San Diego is a pretty easy town to walk.

If you're going to have your bags and stuff for the actual show, I'd suggest finding the trolley station that is at/near the Santa Fe depot that Amtrack uses. Catch the trolley and ride to the Little Italy stop. From there it's a short walk to Front St. and the Radisson and much cheaper than getting a cab.

Dude I live in the desert. And I don't have an apartment anymore. Now I have to take care of landscaping myself. I live in THE DESERT! I have to BUY grass. It doesn't grow. This sucks. I wanted drink a beer with DJ in SD to congratulate him on his semi-finals place for the comic book challenge thingy. So now instead of buying alchol I have to buy grass.....

....wait a sec...that's not a bad idea ;) :p

Dane- I'll be there! I'll be signing at the Pickle Press booth as well as begging people to buy my own crap as well, plus doing sketches, and possibly be part of a panel along with some Devil's Due folks on self-publishing. My birthday is the 21st (two days before the show) so the night of the 23rd, I expect lots of booze! ;)

Yes that can certainly happen. here in Phoenix planes have been grounded before simply because the runways were too hot (this isn't until it's like 120 outside though) and the airports are concerned about the asphalt being too soft to take off on.

Crazy but true.

Yeah, I remember hearing that 120 is the cutoff mark. But Phoenix seems to be the only place dealing with that.

We lost an air traffic control tower in SoCal couple days ago...grounded all traffic in the area...Vegas...parts of SoCal...etc. That could have been a problem for the con.

Still recovering (did not get back home til Midnight or so and then got up and back into the radio grind) but I think by the time it's all said and done and all comes to pass, this will be remembered as THE "Digital Webbing con" with DJ's victory in the NBC/Platinum contest being the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not going to say anything on specific projects out of respect for the creators involved and the fact I have no idea what can and cannot be said at this point (even on some stuff I'm involved with), but between deals/projects pitched, set up, and/or finalized at the show, the "Pimp It Here" board is going to be busy as we try to mobilize the DW Army.

(And it is an army. Wait until you see the pics from the DW dinner at Kansas City Barbecue.)

Thanks to everyone who came by the booth and/or attended the panels. For those of you who are just now visiting the board after getting the info at the booth or hearing about the site during the panels, welcome. And if you didn't make it out this year, start saving those pennies and nickels now.

Nice to see that you're back. Hope you had a voice today for work, or did you just play a taped show? I can't wait to hear (and share) all about the fallout from this year's DigitalWebbing booth. Don't forget to post it when you can. It's very exciting.

And for those who missed it...now you've got almost a year to get ready. 2007 should be even better.

It was indeed a very good con. Seems a lot of DW'ers had very good results from their meetings and whatnot. Meeting everyone and/or seeing them again was a blast.

I'm going to miss fighting Ray. I'm going to have to go to Kansas to box his ears.

I can't wait for Naenae to post the results of the "DW Zombie-Sketch-Jam" from Sunday night. That and Sean and Brent's "Melting Wonder Woman" collab

Well, I guess I should post my experience with SDCC. Overall, it was good. I have a lot of good contacts and one major company's contact information. I'm supposed to keep them up to date on my progress, but I think I should get some work with them in a few months. I won't say who, because if it doesn't go anywhere I don't want to be a liar. I bought a $2,500 Wacom, which I've been planning to buy anyway. I met a lot of people that I'm going to keep in contact with that should be great for references and what not.

I didn't get any paying jobs at the con, but while I was there I ended up getting three paying comic book jobs, but not related to the con. That was kind of weird, but nice. I'm not doing comics full time, though, I still work for Microsoft.

I think in the future I'll get a table to sell my future book and just create a more stable presence for myself. I didn't get to talk with Marvel or DC, because I was running around too much trying to figure out where everything was. The amount of people that attended was astounding. I walked so much I think I lost 10 pounds.

The biggest disappointment was not meeting more small press guys. I wanted to spend more time there, but the disorganization in the portfolio review area was so bad that it had me waiting longer than I should have been waiting to talk with publishers. I spent two days just in that area and I didn't get to talk with as many as I would have liked.

Mostly, I think this was a learning experience and next time will go smoother for me.

Josh
