What about working w public domain characters? There are some old superheroes and villains out there that can be of use.

I feel I need to reiterate that the more complicated we try to make the story the harder it gets to keep it making sense.

that's why I like the idea of the character jumping around and each artist getting to have him kinda so whatever they want, but doesn't interfere with the next persons take on the adventure. this keeps it fun and interesting for the ARTIST as well like Scribbly here is talking about...giving them some creative control while still operating under some kind of rule that keep this thing making some kind of sense.

it NEEDS to be simple...or it starts falling apart. because its ALL of us doing something, it needs simplicity... not complicated story sets ups that people will get lost in.

I have to agree with you, Rob. Half the problem with comics today is they're too darn complicated; too many "moving parts" to try and keep track of. Back in the day when I was writing my independent comic (and I mean waaaaaay back, LOL!) I made an effort to model my storytelling and plotting on early MARVEL because Stan Lee (and later writers/editors, as well) understood that you didn't have to have a complex story for it to be good. KISS----not just a band, but a good philosophy for a lot of life....

Writers write, Artists illustrate.
They converse and swap some ideas....but they are seperate roles for a reason.

If you want to do both, then you can create it all.

I think the dimension hopping idea is the best route to take.

thinking of characters that would have been awesome to have him team up with or fight, I still would have liked to see Savage Dragon, but do you know who would have been an awesome guy for him to fight. Matt Wagners GRENDEL. either Hunter Rose or maybe even better Grendel Prime. that would be an awesome match up.

I'm in for drawing some pages, and not completely fussed on characters etc...as I want a challenge.

like I was saying..( I think I was saying) I have an idea to kick off the story. but basically, with hellboy being carried thru portals to whatever universe the artist ends up in..it gives each artist the chance to draw him meeting whoever they want for however many pages they want.. who do YOU want to have him meet?
im gonna talk to Jeffchris50, who has expressed interest in doing some writing/plotting and see if we can come up with some kind of end story element...

but..to all artists... start thinking of who/how you would like hellboy to run across. I liked the idea of various monsters/creatures. but if you want him to meet Garfield, that's up to you.
for me...if I was doing a part where I had him meet..like..say Dracula.. I know for ME, I would have him meet the Gary Oldman version, as that's MY fav. that would be fun interesting for a small quick story.
