Did a digital coloring on this one. (Disclaimer:): I normally color with watercolor/gouache/acrylic) I'm not real happy with it so... pounding the digital drawing/coloring pad!
Didn't quite finish it either....

nice work. for some reason this piece reminds me of Wendy Pini's style. either way it is nice.

Dude, the cars are awesome. I can't paint cars to save my life. Have you considered printing those babies? They look freakin fantastic.

For the other work, I feel like the colouring/shading isn't doing your linework justice. It's kinda like you're stuck between a kind of inconsistent cell-shading style, and something more airbrushed. A good chunk of this is to do with learning the nuances of digital painting, but some of it is improving a bit more on colour theory and values.

One thing I found helpful is to paint in greyscale. I'm really REALLY bad with colour, so trying to get that right while ALSO practicing my values (and blending techniques) is a bit of a nightmare. You can always add the colour in later. Focus on your values and digital painting techniques, getting a consistent lightsource, improving blending/transitions, etc, then move onto colours.
Well, that's how I personally made the quickest jump in the quality of my digital painting, anyway. Your mileage may vary.

The Hugh/Wolverine pic is a perfect likeness, it's just those digital painting techniques that need some brushing up on (no pun intended). You're trying to blend different hues/values that are too different from one another- the transition is a bit harsh. I tend to use a hard round brush, with size and opacity set to pen pressure. That way I'm forced to be more delicate with my blending, and am constantly alternating between picking colours/values from my canvas and delicately painting.

Oh, and here's a link that might be of use: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/53972895504372998/

I hope some of my rambling is helpful! Keep up the good work! :har:

Your drawings are really awesome, but I think that you need a litle more of the ink practice.

JAM 05-20-2014 11:32 AM

Thanks Aylssa for the look/reply/crit I much appreciate it... without making an excuse, I do more medium(watercolor/acrylic/gouache) rendering work than digital. So I think your crit will help me down the road, again thanks.

P.S. real Airbrushing techniques do not apply to digital Airbrushing learned that pretty quick... ;) and I haven't thought of printing the cars, have more to do and some tweaking.

Thanks Metalni for the look/reply... I'll work on the inking, Wolv was done in pencil I just upped the levels in PS...
