Lobo n' Harley and some other stuff

Hey all,
I'm new around here, I've been a freelance animator and storyboard artist for 14 years (handdrawn), but as of late, I'm attempting to transition some of that work over to comicbooks, I'm writing and drawing one, and putting a portfolio together. I figured it wouldn't hurt to show some of my stuff here, y'all seem pretty nice.

If you want to see more of my work my animation and storyboards can be seen at www.simonampel.com and I've been posting to Instagram rather frequently lately - https://www.instagram.com/simon_the_barbarian

Welcome aboard, Simon! Glad to have you amongst us!

Your renderings look pretty damn fine to my eyes. Love the toning you're using; is that digital, zip-a-tone (yes, it still exists) or duotone paper (something Howie Chaykin was fond of)?

Really nice stuff and hope we get to see more!

Love the Wonder Woman one. Great job on the movement of the lasso and the hair.

another piece

This is loosely a scene from the graphic novel I'm making. Insects have crazy faces.

Everything here is really nice. I have a soft spot for the insect too, since I was doing a cartoony Web-comic with insect characters... though not nearly as accurate as yours!

You have a very groove style Simon.
Pretty sure your sequential stuff would look very good.

battle with the rat tribe

I got a commission recently to do a family portrait, but with the family represented as anthropomorphized barbarian types, fighting ratdudes in the woods.

roughed it out with pencil on 6X9 paper, scanned it and did a drawing over it with my cintiq in clipstudio, and then printed it traced it and did the final pencils onto strathmore 300, inked it with a sable, hunts102 and Guillot nibs and then colored it with watercolors and a bit of gouche. hope you dig it, it was exhausting and harrowing cause the watercolors kinda rule out using pro white

That's a gorgeous piece! Use of colors is fantastic!! Hope the family you did it for truly appreciates that one.
