approaching a year here at locust moon, although given the fact diamond jerked us around and we didn't start getting new books until august, it really doesn't feel like a year yet. and yes, if you're wondering what opening a new comic shop without new product is like, well, it sucks, but we're still standing.

it was a quiet year for me in terms of making comics. i still work regularly with andrew 'ace' carl on getting ONCE UPON A TIME MACHINE (the book a lot of folks around here probably know as 'dwpff' or something like that) finished and out there. we've got close to 400 finished pages and it's a damn fine looking book.

the work i have done on my own stuff since we opened is mostly refining and tightening up, not so much creating. i've written a couple of JUNGLE JANE scenes and, as far as actual writing goes, that's about it. but it looks like the projects&work of the last 5 years will come to fruition this year. you've got to have a certain mentality if you're trying to produce the kind of stuff i am, and in-between driving myself nuts i think i'm holding my own.

i despise the agent-game and it seems like even the best of them still have the nature-of-the-beast ingrained in them. at the end of the day, they're businessmen, and, in the words of guitar hero john frusciante, 'i don't do business.'

one aspect of owning the shop that i'm still coming to grips with is the fact that you become a sort of public figure. it's harder to be honest sometimes. i hold back more, especially online, where i've basically limited myself to our facebook page. but any drawbacks are far outweighed by the joys of doing what we're doing here. my pal farel said to me the other day, 'it's awesome what you guys are doing, you're building a scene.' cheers to that.

there, journal, i feel less guilty now. and i'll leave you with a look at a night at locust moon, featuring superstar gentleman jg jones...

Hey Chris. I haven't been to the shop in a while, really been meaning to. I'll be sure to get over to West Philly soon.

I'm doing good though. My webcomic just launched: zicomic.com . I hope to be in print and in an awesome store like Locust Moon one day.

hey folks. i haven't been around dw all that much since opening up our comics shop in philadelphia, locust moon comics--a labor of love but an all-consuming one at that . but dw, whether a little or a lot, has been in my life for a decade. time flies, right? or crawls, at times.

i wanted to visit my old journal and update it with the biggest project i've taken on to date, LITTLE NEMO : DREAM ANOTHER DREAM.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...=home_location

for anyone out there grinding away on projects that leave them feeling lost sometimes, keep at it. if making comics is what you want to do, and you hone your craft, and put in the work, and treat people with respect, you can get there. the most important thing is determining where your 'there' is. recognize it, mark it, and set out after it. and enjoy the journey; love what you do.

now, i'm going to go check out what's new in the forums here.

Good to see you back, Chris! I'd heard about the Little Nemo book, but didn't realize you were involved. I'll check it out!
