I'm going to be a guest at the Raleigh Comic Book Show next Sunday (12/17/2015) in Raleigh, NC... so I made a flyer to blog about it earlier today.

All the art is hand-drawn, inked, then colored with pastels. I'm still experimenting with those but they add some texture to the real image that you don't "feel" with just a scan. All the lettering was done digitally. Below is a larger version of the original hand-drawn portion:

Something from last June... that I've been hesitant to post, but I finally decided to drop it on my blog earlier today and do a write-up about why I was hesitant to post it last year.

Please check out my blog post for the full details. Basically, I was nervous because my final rendering looked way more like George Perez than I meant it to... and I wasn't sure how to handle that. Tweaking it to look less like Perez made it look less like Raven, so I was kind of stuck.

Rob Norton's Inking thread inspired me to think about inking other pro work. I have only ever inked my own pencils to this point. Justice41 posted a link to a really nice Adam Hughes Vampirella sketch so I decided to start with that one...

Adam Hughes' original pencil sketch:

My Digitally inked + colors version:

I was going to print this out and hand-ink it, but I don't have a large format printer right now that works, and reducing the size to print on letter sized paper looked like it wasn't going to turn out as well as I would like...

So, I opted for digital inking. I'm still doing all my work as vector art in Illustrator, so that's what this is. My typical cartoon-rendering style lets go of some of the detail from Adam's original pencils, but I think I still pulled it off pretty well.
