The deadline for submissions to the Top Cow talent hunt was new years eve, and now that submissions are closed, Matt Hawkins from top cow has just posted on twitter:
Matt Hawkins @topcowmatt: Quote:
No word yet on the ratio of how many are from writers and how many came from artists, but every article and blog post I've read about the competition was by a writer talking about their pitch, so I'm guessing they've got a lot of scripts to read through right now. How did everyone go with their submissions? |

What's weird is that my first thought was ONLY about a thousand?
A fellow recently ran a scary story contest on his own homepage with the prize of a t-shirt and he recieved over 100 (a full tenth) of that. Of course, some folks wrote more than one, but still. Man, good luck to everyone. You have a reasonably good chance with that number, IMHO. |

Matt and were both editors at Image Comics--and I heard about this contest via our facebook a few months ago--and I was stunned that he hadn't picked the "winners"--a long time ago. I thought he was looking for one artist and one writer...so maybe that's changed, I dunno.
Seems to me this has been going on for awhile now. I know finding good talent is hard--I used to go thru the slush pile at Image looking for talent for my various books, and was surprised how much non-talent there actually was--in there, anyway. But I'd think after this long he woulda found someone by now. Maybe he was waiting till he had a ton to sift through. I have to say, though, I never did discover any talent through the slush pile...It was always at a convention....or other personal meeting at my office. But that doesn't mean don't send yer stuff in. That's just my experience. Kurt Hathaway khathawayart@gmail.com |

I like my odds.
Just to be clear Kurt. They were looking for two of each and the contest ran to the 31st

Quick question, Kurt. The slushpile at Image is just artists right? I didn't think you'd even look at writers.
