If you don't mind sharing, and if you have a Patreon account set up, I would be interested in browsing your Patreon page. I know that there are several individuals who use this forum, who have Patreon accounts. There just didn't seem to be a centralized list of Patreon creators from this site.

If you could, just post a link to your Patreon page, and if you like, sum up why your page is the one to support.

Just pondering becoming a supporter. I already would have, but I dislike the notion of effectively being a subscriber, as in monthly, as opposed to supporting when I want to, more as a recurring supporter. Patreon seems to adopt a one-size-fits-all approach.

Even still, I like the core concept.

Yea, Patreon is great and doing really well. There is room for improvement. It would be great to be able to do a 1 time support option. recurring payments freaks me out a little bit as well.

If you can keep up with the daily content grind you will do alright for yourself.

I've been on Patreon since the beginning and for various reasons haven't had much luck (100% my own fault.) Supporting my patreon page is a per content update (most are monthly.)

Your Patreon page says "per word update." The way that it is worded might scare some potential supporters away. Ray Dillion's Patreon page, by comparison, says "per month."

Ray's and most Patreon creators do the monthly thing. guys that can keep up with the daily content crunch. creators like myself who are way more sporadic go with the content as it happens thing.

Understood. Here's the issue, for me - what if a creator decides to create multiple content updates, within a month? The supporters' cards would get charged multiple times, right?

Is there a way for supporters to limit to a maximum number of pay outs in support, within a given period of time, such as on a per month basis?

Also, can a creator change the terms of their update schemes? If so, other than canceling one's status as a supporter, what mechanisms or controls are in place to preclude creators from fleecing supporters, if they wanted to?

I grasp that it isn't in the long term interest of an artist or other creator to fleece anyone, either money-wise or in terms of simply growing a following.

But, taking Murphy's Law into account, shouldn't supporters or potential supporters weigh such questions and prospects?

Additionally, since I favor more of a one-time or on an as-desired approach to supporting creators, rather than a locked-in approach, what are your thoughts, Paul, on supporters who pledge to support, and then cancel after a month or two? On the one hand, creators are likely thankful for any degree of support. On the other hand, it seems to me that this approach could generate regret. I really don't understand why they don't simply offer an option to do a straight forward one time pledge, and maybe even include a reminder of some kind, asking if the supporter would like to renew their pledge for the next month - or, increase or decrease it.

I know that supporters can always simply change their level of pledge, at any time. But, people being people, they tend to get busy, and simply forget about things charged on a monthly basis. It's one of the reasons that I don't take advantage of a lot of different offers that I encounter. Patreon's approach reminds me of that. It generates a sense of hesitancy within me to participate.

BASICALLY
If you have chosen to be supported "per creation" we give all of your Patrons the option to set a monthly max so that they never go over their budget. A monthly max is simply a maximum amount a Patron can cap their pledge at. This protects Patrons from ever being charged more than they are willing to spend.

It's a pain in the balls to give a "supporting" pledge and then canceling after you're charged the first of the month. It would be nice if there was that one time payment option.

I went in, just now, to become a supporter of you. The Patreon form wants a mobile number. I don't have a cell phone, anymore. I cancelled my cell phone service several years ago. It wouldn't let me finish the pledge, without a mobile number.

I did write to Patreon, just now, and voiced my annoyance with their form.

I tried, again, this morning, after receiving an e-mail response from Patreon. They said to click the pop-up box off. But, that doesn't work, since it only reappears. They said that they use Stripe as a payment processor. I haven't actually used Stripe, before - and I likely won't be using it in the future, if this episode is any indicator, at all.

I like Patreon's concept - but, I really don't like their chosen method of implementing that concept, Paul.

In the span of the last four days, my interest in using Patreon to support artists has dropped to nil. Why? Out of sheer annoyance with their data collection techniques. Others use it, and I can - and do - respect that. Heck, I wanted to use it, too.

I appreciate your time and your responses. I'll find another way. I can use PayPal, but that sort of defeats one of the things that I liked about Patreon.

yeah. per creation is the ethical way to do it. As stated, you can set a max to ensure no silly spam uploading.


Per month is kindof bullshit. This is where the fund my life, and no obligation to actually upload anything on a timely basis comes in.
