The colours are too saturated for starters and clash with each other. Otherwise your light direction is all over the shop and the actual shading is mostly just one single gradient that makes little concession to the shape of the object itself or the light source and you've left most of the smaller details out entirely. The smoke is too dense and looks artificial, you need to make use of the layer modes in photoshop to blend it in more. You've probably used dodge and burn to colour? Bad idea... Paint it properly using he brush tool and colour selections.
But the inks look good...!

Regarding the Dodge and Burn.. had the same question from the penciler.. and actually I used the base color on Multiply at varying degrees of opacity.. with varying sizes of soft round brushes.. I was specifically try to avoid the muddy color problems.. Hmm.. regarding the layer modes.. Do you mean having everything on a separate Layer? B/c I did that.. (unless "layer mode" is referring to something else..?) You should see the .PSD file on this thing.. Alpha 1.. body.. helmet.. skirt.. ufos/planets/sun.. sunlight.. line art.
Is there a good tutorial site out there that just breaks it all down? I saw and bookmarked the 3 on your site.. Maybe I should just stick to inking.. ![]() Thanks Sean.

Start out on two layers.
Lines layer Flats Layer On the flat start by separating the planes http://www.dave-co.com/gutterzombie/...hp?f=5&t=11966 Once you have the flats done and they look good then start on the rendering. You should still have the 2 layers listed above.

OK.. I restarted this.. diffferent color scheme for the landscape..and the planets.. I'm aware of the saturation issues on this WiP.. but hows the color *choices*? less clash? I was using adobe's kuler site to assist me so..
![]() I haven't really started doing highlights or shadows on it yet. Also I added a deep dark blue to the sky.. the black was a little jarring. ![]()

Your light source should be coming from the bright sun nearby. As it is right now, the light is coming up from the moon.
Work on getting the flat base tones right. If it doesn't work in the base tones it won't work in the rendering.
