So... before I was so rudely interrupted by power failure... I was about to post updated versions of the Capitol Comics inspired illustrations...

I tweaked some of the line weights and fills on the building and I believe I fixed the glaring errors in Spidey on the sign. I also remembered that due to the construction of the sign with Spidey's foot dangling there on the right, the sign actually did not sit level in the store window.

Adjacent to the old Capitol Comics building in downtown Raleigh, NC was a North Carolina Equipment building. That building is actually still there, along with its iconic giant tractor sign.

I'm going to work on that building next, in perspective and add a perspective version of Capitol Comics next to it, fill in the sidewalk and stuff... making slow but steady progress.

That's cool man. Love the attention to making the sign sit the way you remembered. Tractor sign is rad too!

Thanks, I have some poor quality photos and a lot of memories! I think so far I'm actually happiest with the tractor sign. In some ways it was the easiest to draw but I think it has the most impact.

Everything should look good all together, though, when I get to that point.

Here's a side-view of that North Carolina Equipment building adjacent to the old comic shop.

I have a 2-D version of the tractor sign atop it, and this is reasonably to scale with the size of the comic shop front I already drew.

Anyone who has seen this building knows it is actually deeper (left-side) and has a few more windows... but when I eventually use this in my planned perspective shots, all of that will be obscured so I didn't want to waste time drawing parts that will never be seen.

I know it's a long way from Christmas... but I was out today... Already Gone by the Eagles came on the radio... I thought of the Elf on the Shelf for some reason... one thing led to another... and when I got home tonight I drew this!

Apologies to the Eagles and Elves on Shelves everywhere!

Because of something on someone's Facebook timeline this week, I was finally motivated to draw a thing I've been meaning to draw for a while now... A Sleestak from the Land of the Lost TV show.

I believe I'm mostly done here. I may play around with this, though, and try out some new techniques and post a revision if time permits. I have some thoughts about new ways to do some stuff, and this is a good picture to try some of it out with, but for now I'm calling it done.

Nice Sleestak! He looks creepy. I'm not familiar with the show, but he seems like an original Star Trek style alien, or something from that era, which is what you were going for. So mission accomplished!

Thanks Saul... look up "Land of the Lost" on Google and you'll see some stuff from the old TV show and the relatively recent movie too. I have noted in the past that the Sleestak kind of look a bit like the Gorn from Star Trek. Don't know if that was coincidental or not, it was a show well after Star Trek so it easily could have been directly influenced by that.

Meanwhile... the pig nose on this was really bugging me... so I went and did a complete re-do on the nose, and while I was tinkering I tweaked the shadowing a bit and added a few more minor touches. I think I like this newer version better.

Various reasons... love of Doctor Who, something on a friend's Facebook timeline reminded me of William Hartnell... and wanting to draw something today, led to this:

I opted for black & white/grey to keep the feel of the classic b&w Doctor Who episodes for this particular Doctor. I did take a few liberties with his clothing to simplify the design a bit, but otherwise pretty faithful to the photo references that I found to base him on.

So... here is the most random thing ever!

This is a finished portion of a work-in-progress. As in all things, I had to do this part before I can do the part I really wanted to do... and then, when I've finished and posted that... it will all make sense... maybe!

For now... enjoy this digital rendering of a package of chicken flavored Top Ramen!

Thank you! I think "fun" is my strongest bit... at least I hope so... because especially when I do the funny stuff, I hope the fun comes through.

Something I loved as a kid... were the Wacky Packages stickers! I used to have a bunch of them. I decided to make a few myself, since I like doing parodies anyway... and this explains the Andy Warhol esque nature of my random Top Ramen drawing yesterday...

Inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark, obviously... had to punch up the smaller text a bit to make those parody bits more readable than they were on my real package recreation.

I REALLY need to stop with the staying up all night thing... but I had the germ of an idea for a Cheetos packaging parody, and wanted to get the baseline done before I chickened-out.

It ain't easy drawing something this cheesy! Of course you know this means another Wacky Packages idea is coming... but what will it be?
