Art Feedback

Hello everyone! I'm new here... so I hope I am posting this in the right area! Please correct me if I am wrong.

I wasn't sure how to start with posting my work -- there are a lot of really talented people on here who have been posting their work and improvement for years. It's incredibly intimidating, but makes me excited to have found this forum!

This is one of my latest pieces -- despite it being a commissioned piece, my focus was to improve on anatomy and brush up on my color skills. Feedback is welcome and appreciated!

his lack of legs really annoys me, as she has them.

Thanks for the feedback, Sevens. I'm actually glad you brought this up.

The commissioner asked for half-bodies of the characters, and I wasn't sure how to handle this situation -- how would you have suggested doing things? Would you have hidden the back character more in the whirlwind to make things feel more natural? Or would you have terminated the front character's body sooner so they matched?

2nd - Terminated the front.
Cut them off in the same way and area, so you know it was more a deliberate choice.

Thanks, Sevans, that helps. I'll definitely keep it in mind moving forward.

Hey welcome to the forum MeltedChi .

Nice piece there, I like the anatomy and the colours.

I think you could have pushed the dark colours darker and the light colours lighter though, that would have provided even more impact.

Also re: the half body issue, if it was me I would probably have tried changing the perspective so that both figures were at the same level and then cropped the whole image at their navel level or half way down the thighs (there's a rule in composition that says "don't crop at a joint").

Hope that helps, if not please ignore .

Thank you! Happy to be here, and your feedback is very helpful!

What you said regarding color light and darks really hits home. I've felt like my color is a little lack-luster and I couldn't place why. I think what you have suggested would really help towards solving the problem.

Excellent suggestion also about the composition.

I'm going to post a few more commission pieces I did recently to see if there are any suggestions on their composition, as well. They will have the same color issue, but if you have thoughts on cropping, I'd love to hear them.

It's been a while since I've made a piece of sequential art I can share due to NDA -- so these are some select pages from my webcomic from last October.

I'm starting to work on a short personal project to update my portfolio, since I feel I've learned a lot since these pages.

I've had a few suggestions to add in more backgrounds, less close-up shots, and fewer panels in a page.

Any other feedback is welcome, as I'm trying to integrate everything new I have learned into these upcoming pages I create.

Regarding composition, if it is was me I would have drawn her legs all the way down to the bottom of the page. Chopping them off like that suggests to me that she might be standing in water or something like that.

Hope that helps, please ignore if not .

Excellent advice. I've always struggled with the feeling that my commission compositions make the characters feel "distant" (or the page feels empty) and I think that if I brought the character right to the edge of the page as you suggest, part of this problem would be solved. Thank you!

I've got the linework here for it, as well.
