half of those characters sucked and their shows sucked worse.
However, the other half ELEVATED art + story = a better Human Race. great thread.

Hey! where are the turtles?!
i know they were created in the late 80s (the cartoon at least), but they were very big in the 90s, o grew up in the 90s watching them and playing with the toys. Anyway, great artwork! |

Thanks for the responses, guys. I *did* intend to have Gambit in there, but in the end he got squeezed out of the composition. The Turtles I considered to belong to the eighties; everyone here first appeared in the 90's (Bone was created earlier in Smith's life, but the book came out in 93-ish).

I love this so much!! ...but he is right that Mario and Link far preceded the 90's. That said, I don't care. It's still an awesome piece.

re: Mario and Link; Mario was in there to represent Kart, possibly my favorite game from the nineties. Link, likewise, is the Ocarina version (not my favorite Link game, but up there). I guess for the gaming characters I was thinking more about titles than characters; the skateboard is supposed to be a reference to Tony Hawk Pro Skater, though I think its a wee bit too subtle.
Gambit was totally in the plans, but I ended up not being able to squeeze him into the composition. Also really wish I had included some reference to Goldeneye, since I spent a majority of my waking hours in the late 90s playing it. |
