artsnake is on a distinguished road

sketches and such

Here are a few things I have done over the last while.
Here is a vampire I have been working on
.
I was going to do batman and this guy came out.

Every once in a while I do a Spiderman just to see if I am getting any better.
I can't find the last one I did but I think this one is better.

I really like that batman thingy. and I dig the spiderman. kinda spindly and spidery looking. like old McFarlane and Larsen styles. awesome

Fat Batmite with whiskers is... I'm not sure what. But he needs his own comic. Or at least a one page strip...

Hasn't any body seen a cat in a bat suit before?
Thanks guys I am liking the fat Batcat too.

TimR done or will be done just today I was thinking of a little story for fat batcat.

12013 I was never the biggest McFarlane fan but I have been trying to get some more of his approach in my work. And yeah I think Spider-man should not be very bulky at all.

Metalni Thank you sir.

artman do you think it should be lower? I have been around and around with this one.

the todd mcfarlane bendy anatomy is tough. your pose is pretty good but it looks like the left leg should be higher. in the pic below i show the hip bone and how the leg bones are attached. truthfully, there's more fun in breaking the rules than keeping them so there's always room for creative license.

I love the design of the vampire. It has a similarity to the famous Nosferatu. The fat Batman and Spiderman are added bonus. Good wok overall!

McFarlane was able to break the rules bc it fit his overall cartoony universe... If an overall style is very realistic, then distortions will be more jarring. (That is known as The McFarlane Exemption. Consult the Cartoonists Guidebook you were issued for more details.)

TimR, McFarlane had a look to the way Spide-rman moved that I thought was missing in most takes on him. Spider-man moved more like a spider with Mcfarlane. I don't know why more artists didn't try to do that more. I might take some figuring out.

Pandayboss, Thank you. Yes he is based on the Nosferatu with the idea , I got from the movie What We Do In The Dark. that kind of vampire is really old. teeth might stick out a little more and the nose a little big.

Artman Yeah It is always a bit of a fudge when one is pushing things. It could also work the way it is because Spidies hips may be leading his shoulders but now that think about it maybe his hips would probably go the other way for drama. Thanks for the study.

Kong I am trying. Thank you very much.

Yeah he definitely shook things up, breathed new life into the character. Just to be clear I think yours works fine, was just speaking in a general sense about cartoony vs realism.

Here is the pencils to a cover possibility for the pages I have up in the sequential show case.
I am not sure if I am going to paint it or just do regular inks.

Very nice, moody, which is what you want in a vampire piece. Maybe a bit more red in the sky for contrast.
