Hello all, here are more Green Lantern pages. Honestly I've drawn Green lanterns so much I think I'm a fan now! I wanted to do a grimey fight a la the abandoned building Green Goblin fight in Sam Raimi's Spider-man. I appreciate feedback! These are getting mailed away this week!

I do like the panel designs overall the work it's well done except the last page of the female she looks a little wide in figure.

How do you practice in achieving this level of work just curious?
Meaning how do you practice from books or etc?

I read a lot, trying to default to my basics. Over rendering and then peeling it back until it looks good. Look at your inspirations, dissect them, jumble what you love about them all up in your art. Work for substance, and never for style; that will come. I made that mistake, but I like my work a lot more now for it.

The renditions are fine but there is no real storytelling in these pages. It is difficult to see how the story progresses. We get impressions but not a sense of something happening that we can follow from frame to frame.

Your focus in these pages is clearly on the rendition and making things look nice. But expert illustration is a different skill than visual storytelling which is about making the story progress from one point to another.

In your development as a comic book artist, it will be your next challenge. It is not about making things look pretty but about making them understandable and creating a logical flow between panels and the story being told.

There is a lot of grandstanding and characters looking triumphant, menacing, courageous - posing, but little about the conflict between the two characters and what is at stake.

For example, you introduce Sinestro with a close-up of his chin. Not the most effective way to show a menacing figure. The creature with him is never foreshadowed. It just pops up at one point posing behind him. There is no sense from the first shot looking at Sinestro that there is an even bigger threat than him around.

You are learning fast and quickly mastering comic works. Visual storytelling will be the next challenge for you, and I hope that you will jump on it instead of feeling diminished.

Another advise, put less emphasis on the creative panel work. It draws away from the story and does not reinforce it when it is cosmetic only.

These pencils are generally pretty good, I'm not one who thinks that atypical panel layouts equates to bad storytelling and you generally manage it quite well in these pages understanding that if a creative layout makes a page hard to read it would be bad. That being said be prepared to catch crap from a vocal portion of the comic public for whom it's a grid layout or nothing. That being said I do have a couple of minor criticisms (mostly for the sake of it). First on the storytelling mind the 180 degree rule, it matters a bit less because the characters you're using look quite different, but it will make your pages read more easily especially if that wasn't the case. Second you do have some anatomy issues, they're minor and most appear to consist of you crushing anatomy to fit in panel, you'll probably overcome these quickly with a bit of work, but if you want a suggestion I'd say sketch your anatomical structure out of panel (even tack on scratch paper if you need to) to make sure the anatomy has the space to look right. Nice work!
