Okay folks.

Here's some artwork for a new anthology project called Seven Stones that just went up on Kickstarter today.

A little bit about the new project -

Seven Stones includes seven stories of The Wrecked Earth, the setting of C.E.L. Welsh’s debut novel, CLUTCH, and its upcoming sequels. The stories of Seven Stones are set after Rockfall before the events of CLUTCH.

The Wrecked Earth is our world, or it used to be until the meteors started falling. The devastation started with Rockfall and never stopped. Civilization was destroyed, and now strange societies and loose bands of misfits struggle for power. Fallen meteors leak radiation, changing the landscape and mutating all that touches them. Herds of mutant animals roam the land and people struggle to survive.

Seven writers were chosen. Each of them was tasked with writing the story of a stone, a special meteorite of The Wrecked Earth. Seven artists brought the stories to life as comics. The result? The coolest word-and-picture project since the world ended.

I'll be illustrating one of the stories as well as the cover. You can see the pencils below! The pencils were completed with a number two pencil and a .03 mechanical pencil with HB lead. It measures around 22x17.

Please, head over and check it out!

Thanks!

JM

So above are the inks for the Seven Stones cover. It's a wrap-around cover and you can see the pencils in the previous post.

Part of the reason I approached this project with inks instead of my more traditional approach was because the book will predominately be a black and white book. Everybody participating will be illustrating the book and pen and ink and I wanted a nice, consistent look throughout the book. It had also been some time since I last inked something and I thought it sounded like fun! And it was! Even if it was a lot of work.

I approached the pencils a little differently in that I ran through them pretty quick and dirty. I didn't worry at all about keeping things clean, I was rough in many spots and I tightened everything up with ink. It was an interesting challenge and I'm pretty happy with the result. I do think I need some more practice and I need some more spots with a little more solid black, but over all, I was pleased with the result.

I used a variety of pens, though predominately it was inked with several rollerball pens, a .05 and a fine line. I also used some .01 and .03 microns for tight, detail work.

Hope you like it!

And please, if this looks at all interesting, head over and help us make this!

Hello folks! Been a while since my last post! Sorry about that!

The next big project that I'm involved in is with none other than the amazing Bo Hampton. It was a great thrill and honor that Bo decided to invite me to be a part of his project!

The project is called 3 Devils and it will be be an 80 pg. full color Graphic Novel. I'm handling colors and Bo is doing everything else.

The genres blended are : Supernatural Horror and High Action Western Melodrama. The basic premise is this — In 1873, Northern Utah, a young gypsy girl watches her family murdered by a vampire called The White Man. The traumatized child is taken in the following day by an ex-slave who, years before, had been transformed into a soul-less Zuvembie by a Haitian witch. He feels a spark of empathy for the kid and sees her as a possible re-connect with his own humanity.

They eventually team up with a Freak-Show head-liner called the Human Wolf. His body is covered in hair, teeth filed for effect–and he's been badlly abused by the circus. After his rescue is effected by the girl and the ex-slave, they realize–too late–that he's also been bitten by an actual werewolf. The 3 Devils are the supernatural beings that originally caused their torment . So the story involves the war these 3 misfits fight each day against bigotry and mis-trust as well as the battle with the supernatural–which looms ahead.

It's a great premise and Bo's work is nothing short of stunning.

So please, head over and check it out!

And please back the project, this ones going to be a lot of fun!
