Here's another Outland Collective challenge - the theme was "western". I chose a sort of Native American gunfighter type. It's not exactly accurate and those tattoos are bizarre and don't fit, but that was the initial thought behind this!

Hope you like it!

Hey, welcome back to the site! I haven't noticed you around in a while.
This is some awesome work. You are a very talented artist.
When I was looking at the bird one, I thought a first that it was a closeup of a regular hummingbird with some tiny Borrowers-esque people on top. But then I noticed the small bird overlapping the hummingbird's tail feathers and I realized it was a giant hummingbird. In the color one it was easier for me to see it quickly, but maybe you could have gone a little bit further with the overlapping. I guess when you are dealing with abnormally sized objects not standing on the ground it can be a challenge to figure out ways to establish the relative sizes.
Anyway, post more work!

Thanks Saul! I appreciate the comments and I'll try to get more artwork up here!

Since we're doing the western theme, here's another in that genre - a frontier heroine. Once again, a piece for Outland Collective.

Hope you like it!

Thanks Mike! I haven't been real active in the community, though I do lurk. I appreciate the kind words! Especially on my hands!

Thanks Sevans! I appreciate that! Glad you dig the minotaur - I need to do some more stuff like that, more creature oriented. It was fun.

Okay,

Back with some more work. This time, I thought I might post my process on a pretty recent pin-up I did for the just released Dream Thief from Dark Horse. The creator, Jai Nitz, got in touch with me about contributing and, naturally, I was all for it! It's an interesting premise and the image was a lot of fun.

Below, you can see my initial layouts -

Jai liked my first idea best, so we ran with that. Granted, each idea is pretty similar and I had a pretty clear vision in my head when it came down to laying out the composition for the piece, which is always helpful.

Here are the finished pencils -

You'll notice that the image changed a bit - I added a second body to help make things a bit more interesting. It's always a challenge, at least for me, to illustrate dead bodies. Reference is extremely difficult to find and after the first few images, I decided I was better off just working from my head.

Finally, the color -

When going into the color work here, I was heavily referencing NC Wyeth. And while this isn't exactly an NC Wyeth color scheme, it's very similar. And it's definitely a little different than the colors I usually use. I have to admit, I was pretty happy with how these colors came out. It's a bit dark, and that's something I actually need to address, but overall, I'm pretty happy with the outcome!

Hope you like it!

Here's a steampunk flavored piece I did for the Outland Collective.

I added some tones to this for fun!

Those Dream Thief pencils are sooo damn sexy.
Very cool.... almost wish they weren't coloured. Even though the colours are pretty good.
