Coloring critique wanted
Hello,
It's been quite a while since I've posted anything, but I remember Digital Webbing as a solid place to get some constructive feedback. Please take a look at these two pages and give me your thoughts on the coloring. I'm new-ish to colors and I've been struggling to get it to read well and look professional. My goal is nothing too fancy, just to read well and establish a mood. The story is sort of a superhero apocalypse, with a comic book/cartoony feel to it. Here are the first two pages followed by the Line Art for comparison. I appreciate any feedback or advice. Thank you! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks fine imo.. I notice it's mostly flat colors w a few soft edges. I would consider going all the way and just making a hard rule not to use any soft edges. Might force some interesting choices on you. (Might also be bad advice, but at least I'm not charging! XD)

The comment by TimR might be a good one.
Cell shading would suit your bold cartoony style quite well. In the panels with the flaming Head guy, maybe change the buildings to a darker red/brown, so that his greyish suit doesn't blend into the background so much.

Thanks, Tim. Your suggestion is a good one and that was more or less my goal to begin with, but I guess during the haze of coloring I softened my resolve and my edges in a few places. I'll see what I can do to reduce that.

Thank you, sevans. I agree with your point. I've been struggling trying to put contrast everywhere it should be and this is a prime example of something I will have to revisit.

I like how you put the colors all together and I like flats which gives the page a feel of the old school. Excellent work IMO!
Only thing I could suggest maybe is since the scene is at night, would it be better if we can see more of blue colors? It looks warm but it should be depicting night time...with cooler contrasting colors.

Thanks for the comment pandayboss. I will consider bringing the colors a little cooler. I was mainly going for a red theme and mood, but I may need to tone it back.
Here is the next page in the story:

It looked a little brighter on my iPad. Do you think the the colors are too dark? ![]()

Thank you, kong.
Here's the next page. I was really pulling out my hair on this one. Coloring has so many decisions to be made, I sometimes go back and forth multiple times. Any feedback or suggestions for improvement are welcome: ![]()

On to the next page! Action is starting to pick up the pace from here. I hope the colors are improving as I go, or at least not getting any worse!

Here is the latest page. I think things are getting a bit more complex and varied as I go on. Is it too much?
