Nice work on the r2 vector art. That looks like it took a lot of patience.

Thanks... yeah, some of these (R2-D2, the AT-AT, the Dalek) take a long time and I feel like there are long periods of almost accomplishing nothing while working at the details... then sudden jumps where I block out larger shapes for a while... then slows down again drilling the details.

It's hard to know how deep to go sometimes, with the detail... but there are little bits here and there that really make all the difference. Like, to me, every time I look at R2-D2, I'm drawn to that little white spot on the camera lens, and that one little spot makes all the difference in the appearance of that camera to me.

Another fairly simple animation... this time with the recent Vampirella drawing. This is what happens when you stay up past bedtime!

Deadpool Valentine

Something quick and dirty (well, not so dirty in the nasty sense) for Valentine's Day and the Deadpool movie...

I went cartoony, frankly, because realism still escapes me sometimes AND I think it works better to cartoon a gory situation to take the edge off.

This is also completely hand-drawn... I'd have cleaned up a few things if I rendered it digitally, but sometimes I think there is some charm in rough edges and this way I have a finished original art piece that I can hold instead of just a file on my hard drive!

Hopefully I won't need to explain the joke too many times... it might not be funny, but I think for a change it's at least reasonably obvious

Something new for the first time in a little while. I realized I hadn't posted anything in this art thread for a bit, and I also hadn't drawn any people in a little while, so today/tonight I tackled something.

This is, of course, Supergirl as portrayed by Melissa Benoist in the current CBS TV show. I did use one of the promotional stills as a reference, but what's weird is that while I think it turned out very well... it doesn't look as much like the actress as I wanted. I mean, it's a comic-style version so it wouldn't be realistic anyway... but I couldn't quite get whatever "it" is that would make it immediately obvious that this was her, at least not to me... but I already forgot to eat dinner so I decided I needed to cut this one and let it fly to the Internet.

Decided I wanted to draw some more sketch cards... since Superman was still on my mind from the recent Supergirl illustration... I wanted to draw an old-school Fortress of Solitude landscape.

Something new... in honor of the Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice movie... a composite of Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman in bust-form since that's all I really wanted to draw

Because it is as much art as lettering, I'm dropping this in here as well as in my Lettering & Logos thread...

Stayed up way too late tonight, but I wanted to get this done once I started... my recreation of the Batman v Superman movie logo from the movie posters.

Thank you... it's funny... I was struggling last night with the composition of the S... I couldn't figure out how it was constructed to replicate it... but upon sleeping 8 hours and looking at it again... I see that I got it right somehow AND I can see how it is meant to be constructed.

This is what happens late at night... your brain works on automatic apparently.

Here's an updated version of the Batman v Superman logo where I now have fully cutout the appropriate sections so it can be used with any background...

Morganza drew a cool thing here, and offered up his original pencils for anyone brave enough to have a go at inking and coloring... and this is what happened when I did it!

Make sure you check the link to Morganza's post to see how this got started.

Nice work Stewart . I especially like the Batman and Superman piece, I can recognize Henry Cavill quite clearly.

Thank you. I could probably have worked a bit more with his nose... but otherwise I think it works.

I see a steady gradation of improvement and experimentation throughout the thread. Great logo work especially, Stewart!
