Web Domain advice

Here's my concern,

Lab Bratz has been on Comicgenesis for well over a year and gets over a thousand page views per day. A Gathering of Crows gets a couple hundred visitors per week over at GraphicSmash.

I bought several domains for my webcomics, including Labbratz.com, and Gatheringofcrows.com, but how do I move to these without losing all that traffic? I have pointers to my current sites all over the web. I don't want to lose fans and links from all over.

What to do?

Ed

There is an HTML function that will redirect your customers to your new site seamlessly. So, when they go to soandso.com they will be directed to newsoandso.com. Do a google search for html redirect code and you'll find it. If you canít find it let me know and I can for you.

Not sure I understand... You don't have to "move" anything. Web domains are just names. You can point LabBratz.com to http://labbratz.comicgenesis.com/. Any links to http://labbratz.comicgenesis.com/ will still point to your comic.

My new sites are parked over at GoDaddy, where I registered the domains. I can set up domain forwarding there so that anyone trying to reach labbratz.com goes to the current Lab Bratz site at Comicgenesis.

What I'll need is a method to go the opposite direction when I buy hosting for the new sites. And how does that affect everything from Alexa traffic ratings to Chitika ads to voter buttons?

I also have lots of pages on my current site. I'll have to overhaul ALL of them, won't I?

When I Googled "html redirect code", I saw a lot of products advertised that I don't have the money for.

Well, yes, unfortunately you have to haul all your pages if you want to move them to a new host. If you had kept your site on your hard drive too it wouldn't take long. Just upload as usual.

A HTML redirection is easy. You don't need any products or programs. Just type this on the homepage of your site:

Code:
<script language="javascript">
<!--
location.replace("http://www.labbratz.com");
-->
</script>

Do I need to put that on ALL my pages? I know that I have visitors come in on my links page, some have bookmarked pages in my archive, etc.

Thanks,

Ed

The Java one works, but not everyone has Java installed, so that's why I suggested the HTML version. I'll try to find it when I have a sec. If you set up the pages in a certain program such as Adobe GoLive there are options to update all of the pages in one shot, but if it used notepad then you have to update each page yourself. If there are hundreds you might want to write a simple batch file to do the updates for you, but you'll have to figure out how to write the patch file. It might be quicker if you know that stuff, but if you don't I'm not sure how long it will take you to find a way to do it.
